Why only a Few Weeks a year?
Why does GLOSS FM broadcast for only a few weeks a year?
The regulations governing the licencing of Radio Stations mean that we are currently only eligible to apply for a ‘Restricted Service Licence’ (RSL) from Ofcom, the regulatory authority for all television and radio broadcasting.
This Licence entitles us to broadcast for up to 28 consecutive days.
We are able to apply for up to two of these Licences a year as long as there is a four month gap between the two broadcast periods.
However exciting news announced in April 2011 is that Ofcom is inviting applications to run a new tier of permanent Community Radio Stations. The first region they are asking for applications is the South West!
